University of Regina Three Minute Thesis (3MT®)

Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) is a research communication competition developed by The University of Queensland (UQ) in Australia.  Students have three minutes to present a compelling oration on their thesis and its significance. 3MT is not an exercise in trivialising or "dumbing-down" research, but challenges students to consolidate their ideas and research discoveries so they can be presented concisely to a non-specialist audience.

At the U of R, 3MT is part of an effort to provide students with an opportunity to develop their oral communication and presentation skills.

  • First Prize: $1500 scholarship, and opportunity to represent U of R at the Western Regional Competition (travel, lodging, and registration expenses paid),
  • Second Prize: $1000 scholarship,
  • Third Prize: $500 scholarship

This year, the final will be in March, 2018

GSA Poster Competition

Presenting research is always a great opportunity for personal and professional development. To this end, the URGSA Execs have organized the Fall 2017 Poster Competition on November 6th 2017. This event will allow students who submit abstracts, to prepare and present their research in a visual format. All students will be evaluated, and this feedback will assist them in preparing for future postercompetitions. If you are new to conferences, poster presentations are a great first step as viewers will walk around reading all the different posters, and ask the presenters questions about the poster.

The competition date and time will be announced soon! Stay tuned!

2017 Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition

If you have been waiting to hear about our Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition, the wait is now over!

The 3MT competition is an amazing competition held in universities around the world. For this competition, participants are challenged with the task of condensing their research into a three minute time frame. For those who have never participated in a 3MT before, it’s a great opportunity to come up with an “elevator speech” on your research, which may come in very handy! We welcome grad students at all stages in their research, so even if you are just starting out, please give it a shot!

This year the U of R 3MT conference is going to have two workshops, three heats, and a finale. Registration is now open! Be sure to register early as only 20 participants are able to register for a given heat session. The deadline to register is Wednesday February 15, 2017 at 11:59 pm

All of the details on the competition (registration, eligibility, rules, etc.) can be found under the 3MT Conference tab at the top of our website.
